Independents Sweep Polls
Long lines form at the polls held in The LKE.
On 1 April, The Land of Kings and Emperors held elections to directly elect the Prime Minister and the lower house of the regional legislature, the Estates Common. The election for the premiership saw two tickets go head to head, with the incumbent Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister running for a fourth consecutive term. However, the April 2020 election overall saw the most number of independents on the ballot in recent history. The results for the April 2020 Premier election is as follows:
Erica von Clair-Arcadia / Julio Von Arcadia-Sova (Lion Party, Incumbent) - 44%
Vedant Madan-Talleyrand / Astrid Weisberg (Independent) - 56%
Surprisingly, the independent ticket ended up sweeping the polls with a decisive victory over the incumbent government. Elected to the Estates Common were Julio Von Arcadia-Sova and Erica von Clair-Arcadia from the Lion Party, and Independent Aristeo Barratiel Frantzen. Serving in the upper chamber, the Estates Noble, this term are: John Spencer-Talleyrand, Vedant Madan-Talleyrand, and Rayregalia von Arcadia-Sova. Congrats to all those elected!

It is matter of pride and pleasure for us, especially me to be back in Number 27, Layton Street after Two and a Half Years! LKE has changed in these Years for the better, and we have to continue with these changes for the good of LKE.
I thank these four for joining the Imperial Council and we will soon be back with the policies and programs for April 2020.

The LKE Imperial Army and its allies as they arrive in Xedas.
The LKE Imperial Army, demonstrating its continued prowess, pressure, and vitality, successfully coordinated an operation in Xedas. The LKE Imperial Army's Chief of the Imperial General Staff, Colonel General Valfor Talleyrand, and the Commander of the Field Army, John Spencer-Talleyrand, served as regional officer and point, respectively. In total, appointed regional officers ejected and banned more than two dozen defender and suspicious nations spanning the entirety of the operation.
The LKE Imperial Army also had one of our largest deployments in recent history to Xedas. The LKE's operation was supported by its allies and friends in Europeia, The West Pacific, Balder, United Kingdom, The Black Hawks, Kantrias and Lone Wolves United to assist with the operation. The point nation, Montjoy, amassed 62 endorsements at its peak. During the operation, the LKE and its allies were able to ward off two unsuccessful attempts at contesting the delegacy.

Since the end of our war with the Founderless Regions Alliance with the FRA's final demise in October 2016, the LKE has chosen to reduce the frequency of occupations organised by Imperial Army. Nonetheless, we have maintained, and continue to maintain, organisational capability as well as significant resources, often deployed in support of our partners and in targeted interventions as appropriate. Coming a decade after the conclusion of the LKE's notable 85-day occupation of Free Thought in March 2010, the ongoing occupation illustrates the ability and determination of the Imperial Army to project LKE military power. The Imperial Army remains one of a range of valuable instruments at the disposal of the Emperor and His Supreme Majesty's Government, safeguarding the interests of the LKE and our allies, often in concert with allied forces for mutual benefit. A lot has changed in the NationStates world since our first operations in 2006, but this remains the same: whether the year is 2007, 2010, 2013, 2017 or 2020, the Imperial Army demonstrates LKE power.
Legislature Buried in Bills

The Estates General, the regional legislature, has been busy and hard at work ensuring the passage of reforms such as the Guardian Council Reorganization Act (2020), the Naturalization Omnibus Act (2020), and the Attorney General Act (2020).
Bills introduced in either chamber of the Estates General must go through a rigorous debate and vetting process. Members of the Estates Common and the Estates Noble (lower and upper chamber, respectively), are allowed to extend debate if necessary with permission of their Speaker. Since the beginning of the year, the Estates General has been churning out legislation for the Emperor to sign, making necessary changes and reforms to existing laws to help streamline and maintain efficient processes.
The Guardian Council Reorganization Act (2020), for example, gives an official structure by statute to the Guardian Council, which is a group of trusted individuals, usually Peers of the Realm, who advise the Emperor on important regional matters. The GCRA also empowers the Guardian Council to compile and publish legislative reports on legislation that is passed by the Estates General, either at the request of the Emperor or of its own volition. It also establishes a formal process for any proclamation of accession of the Crown Prince, or any line of succession, to the Throne. The bill's author, John Spencer-Talleyrand, was able to quickly secure its passage in both the Estates Noble and the Estates Common.
